Daisy has a unique skill. She can bake pies. Pies that are so good, they’re to die for. Her murder pies are only her side job but in her day job she’s doing something daring, she’s entering a baking competition. Balancing the two can be quite tricky, especially when one of her special pies is intended for one of the judges. When he turns up dead pre-pie, she stumbles into a sinister ploy that as she digs deeper could lead to her exposure.

The story begins with a humorous opening that finds Daisy in her element – baking. The humor and her attitude carry throughout, giving the story an upbeat tone and making it fun to read from start to finish. Everything centers around the baking competition which plays an important role as the setting and is where the majority of the drama occurs. The competition also provides Daisy with the chance to encounter new characters which add layers to the mystery by being suspects, providing information, and being allies. Once again there is a deep appreciation for Popp’s world in A Good Day to Pie as it is a charming feel-good read that is inclusive and empowering though still knows how to have fun and strikes the perfect balance with the magical and murder elements.
