Family (Family Love)

Sometimes children wonder how they ended up with the people in their family. In this sweet book, a mother is imparting a secret to her child, one Mother says the child will share with her own children one day. The secret is how the Universe watches over souls that have not yet been born and imagines what their future lives will be like and with whom those souls will spend their days. These kindred spirits will be forever connected by a thread. Sometimes that thread gets tangled, but with patience, it can be untangled. When one feels lonely or forgotten, one can find that thread and their way back to their family.

Ariel Andrés Almada has written a pretty story that will be of great comfort to youngsters who may have questions about how their family came to be their family. The language is lyrical and lovely, and the story is engaging. The illustrations by Sonja Wimmer are perfectly enchanting. She uses a subdued palette and soft lines to create beautiful, velvety illustrations. Even the paper used in the book is unusually thick and heavy. This is a wonderful book that youngsters will request over and over.
