Family is Family
Little Chick is getting ready to walk to his first day of school, but he is puzzled by a note from school about walking with a mom, dad, or sibling if they need assistance. Little Chick is confused because he only has two moms, no dad and no siblings. So he tells his two moms he is walking to school alone and off he goes. Along the way he meets a number of different family groupings, from the two parent and one kid, one parent and one kid, one parent and many children, as he walks to school.
Little Chick realizes families can come in a number of different ways. When he runs into two bear brothers he asks if one of the bears can be his brother. After the two play like brothers Little Chick realizes he prefers to be an only child and have two mothers.
I believe this book falls into the more LGBTQ category of children’s books, as it is more geared toward LGBTQ families who have a young child who may be questioning why there is two of the same and not one of each. Though it does this is a haphazard way and is fairly unsatisfying.
