Heaven Can Wait and Other stories

We rated this book:

I was drawn to this book because of the title, and also to the promise that it would touch on some aspects of spirituality and life’s deeper meanings. While the stories do touch on human frailties and desires, self-sacrifice and unintended consequences, I found nothing spiritual or enlightening here. Rather, it is a potpourri of brief vignettes that are often meandering, lacking in emotion or relatable characters.

In a very simplistic style, the characters find their faith in love, humanity, and miracles being tested, with often surprising or inspiring outcomes. However, I found the stories lacking in that “aha” moment that gave me reason to ponder their relevance.

There are many instances of what appear to be misuses of grammar, but it also felt as though the author either did not have full command of English usage or it was translated from its original language and the translations were inadequate.

As a poet and visionary, Jadeja’s other works fare much better, so I will leave it to other readers to sample Heaven Can Wait and Other Stories and decide for themselves.
