I Am Not Who You Think I Am
Wayland is eight years old when his world is altered irrevocably. He arrives home from school to witness his father’s suicide. He and his father were close, the suicide appears inexplicable. Wayland finds a note near his father and doesn’t alert his mother or anyone else at the time. The note states rather cryptically: “I am not who you think I am.” Eight years later, Wayland’s family is barely functional: His mother works herself to the bone, while Wayland’s sister gallivants with an older ne’er-do-well. Recurring thoughts about his father’s death and possible inconsistencies with the event spur Wayland into delving further into his dad’s life along with the meaning behind the note. As Wayland discovers new leads, he begins to question everything and everyone in his orbit. Nothing is quite what it seems in Wayland’s life.
