Their contact in India is a wealthy merchant whose partnership with the family has changed their fortunes.

The younger sister, Riley, has chosen academics over the family business. She eschews the wealth and prefers to live modestly in manner and lifestyle. While Riley has admired the journalist James Greenly, Morgan is the sister who becomes his partner. But there is so much more to this story and the secrets hidden within the family.
