It’s the last day of school which means Perilous Graves would soon be free to roam the city. He should be excited to run around the city with his friend Peaches and his sister. Then someone close to him disappears and he finds himself on an adventure that brings him to the Dead Side of Town. Perry doesn’t have any special ability but that won’t stop him from saving his home, even if it meant he needed to be a little heroic.

This story has so much personality in the writing style, dialogue, tone, and characters which shows in every moment. The dynamics between Perry and the other characters are humorous as the characters pair well against his shyer nature. His dreams of far-off places and taking a quest of his own still didn’t prepare him for the adventure that would take place within his very home. The story weaves between two perspectives, following Perry and Casey with both voices grounded in an emotional place. Authentic dialogue helps establish the setting through the music and culture of New Orleans by weaving the city with a lovely supernatural flair. Infused with magic, The Ballad of Perilous Graves comes to life with originality, clever dialogue, and charming characters.
