The Dead Romantics
Florence Day is a ghostwriter for the famous romance novelist Ann Nichols. After many successful novels, Florence is down on love and unable to finish their latest love story. Set to meet Ann’s new editor and break the bad news, she meets no-nonsense Ben Andor, who won’t grant her an extension. After the horrible meeting, Florence receives more bad news; her father has passed away. The Dead Romantics shares Florence’s innermost feelings as she grapples with heartbreak, grief, and love.
Ashley Poston’s writing is lyrical and comical, and The Dead Romantics was a beautiful story. I don’t typically like novels that feature ghosts, so enjoying this one so much was a delightful surprise. Although a contemporary romance, it also explores death in a profound way. I loved each character, and the romance between Ben and Florence was sweet and supportive. It was quite unbelievable that Poston was able to craft such a cozy story around a woman who can communicate with ghosts and has a funeral home for a family business. This book was deeply enjoyable, and it made me smile, laugh and cry!
