The Lover of No Fixed Abode
This books feels like one of those art-house European movies where there is a lot of dialogue, many characters but there is not much action or overall plot. Just an examination of the ennui of life set in 1980s Venice, Italy. The book follows Mr. Silvera and Chiara. Mr. Silvera is an enigmatic and not that good of a tour guide. He hosts budget tour travelers who are getting brief glimpses of Venice before moving onto their next destination. Mr. Silvera is jaded and often has an air of he could care less whether people are having a good time or learning about what they are seeing. He is handsome as he is mysterious. Chiara travels to explore unearthed art collections for auction houses to determine whether they are worth anything. She runs into Mr. Silvera at the beginning of the book and throughout tries to figure out who is really is and what he is really like. || This is not really a mystery or crime book. Besides bad taste and inauthentic food for tourists there is no major crime going on. The only true mystery is who is Mr. Silvera.
