The Sibley Birds Coloring Field Journal
Adult coloring books are all the rage these days. One of the most popular hobbies all over this country is birding, or birdwatching. This book combines these two things in the best possible way. The book starts with an introduction by David Allen Sibley, author and illustrator of many deservedly popular birding guides, including The Sibley Guide to Birds. His fine paintings are the basis for this book. Seventy-five of his color paintings are printed in thumbnail sizes as the guide for coloring the line drawings throughout the book, which have been created by Cecilla Lehar, a fashion illustrator and avid birder. This cleverly designed book is printed on heavy, glossy paper and bound with a fold-back hard cover that allows the owner to carry it about on birdwatching walks and still have a great surface for working on their colorations. In addition, there is a nice section in the back of the book on the anatomy of birds. This discusses different types of feathers and beaks as well as the different parts of the birds in very specific detail. All this is topped off with blank pages for one’s own sketches and notes. This is terrific.
