Where’s My Cow?
A flock of egrets lives in a meadow near the sea with a herd of cows. Every morning, the egrets fly off to explore the beach, but the littlest egret stays behind, sitting on his cow. The beach seems too far away. Through each day, the little egret rides on the cow’s back and listens to stories of things the cow has seen. All these wondrous stories give the little egret ideas. Maybe he should try to fly after all. His cow encourages him to try. Little Egret takes off but doesn’t get very far before he turns back and has trouble finding his cow. When they are back together, they work out signals to find each other, and Little Egret flies away again. Each day he flies farther and gets braver.
Susan Blackaby has written a sweet story of growing and learning independence while finding ways to feel safe. Scott Brundage’s cute illustrations in bright, pretty colors are filled with fun details. This would be a great story to read in preparation for going to school or visiting someone away from parents. This is a book little ones will ask for over and over. Don’t miss it.
