If you’ve ever searched YouTube to learn more about how to find a therapist or about what distinguishes one mental illness from another, you may recognize Kati Morton’s name. Morton, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, brings a refreshing helping of expertise to her YouTube videos, and she brings the same care and investment to her book. Are u ok? is a mental-health primer, its topics ranging from what mental health is to what defines a toxic relationship. Reflecting on her own experiences as a clinician and an online mental health communicator, Morton answers frequently asked questions in an approachable and digestible way.

Morton’s advice is thoughtful, and her care for her readers is evident. Though she sometimes meanders off the central topic of a chapter, her conversational writing is consistently thoughtful. This book would be well suited for a reader looking for a starting point in their effort to understand and navigate mental health. The book, however, doesn’t outshine her YouTube videos—for someone interested in more specific information or advice, Morton’s YouTube channel may be the better resource.
