Dangerous Boobies: Breaking Up with My Time-Bomb Breasts
Several members of Caitlin’s family were stolen away by breast cancer, and when she discovered she bore a high risk of breast cancer herself, she took the preemptive step of a double mastectomy. For someone whose life — and frame — were previously dominated by G-cups, this was quite a journey.
And she chronicles the incredibly personal experience with humor and honesty here. Running before, during, and after her famous Screw You, Cancer documentary series, Dangerous Boobies explores every facet of Caitlin’s relationship with her chest. And although we’re talking about cancer, there are plenty of laughs to be had.
Some sections — the nipple chapter among them — are wickedly, laugh-out-loud funny, a testament to Caitlin’s storytelling and singular voice. But the jokes never cause the reader to lose sight of the real person behind the humor, someone flawed and sincere and brave.
Yes, I know, brave is overused. It’s a word that carries a burden. But it fits here. It fits because of the humor, because of the heart, and because of the openness. Caitlin talks about a hard thing in a funny way because it could help others. And if that’s not bravery, I don’t know what is.
