Intrusion: A Novel
Kat and her husband Scott have recently lost their son to a car accident. Scott is coping by throwing himself full time into his legal work, while Kat has quit her job and hardly gets out of bed. They attend a work party together where they discover Scott’s new client is Kat’s old friend from her past in England. They haven’t seen each other in twenty years after a fallout. However, she seems like she’s changed and she begins to ingratiate herself into their lives. Is she really a different person or do some people never change? What kind of an Intrusion will she be?
I didn’t find this book to be very much of a thriller, but I still enjoyed it very much. It seemed like it was more a story of loss and dealing with grief, with a little bit of intrigue added in. I think having two boys of my own, I immediately felt compassionate towards Kat and what it would feel like if I lost them. Kat had a lot of depth to her character, which drew me in and made me feel invested in her story. This book is a good example of how far people will go for revenge for things they perceived others did wrong, true or not. Altogether, a great book for a look at the darker side of human nature.
