Summer on the River: A Novel
Evie’s family is coming to Dartmouth just in time for the summer boat regatta along the river. Since her husband died she appreciates spending time with her stepchildren and friends, but she is harboring a secret that could change everyone’s lives. Her stepson Charles and his cousin Ben, who know nothing of the family secret, are enjoying their stay in the village when they meet Jemima a local girl full of life and energy. While Charles falls for her at once, he knows he would never be able to leave Angie and their children.
Jemima and Ben strike up an unlikely friendship and, along with Evie’s support, the summer is full of hope and happiness. But dark shadows are lurking. Not only is Angie keen on making Evie feel like a guest in her own home, but another figure from her past has turned up in town, and Evie isn’t sure what his intentions are. The summer fun may not last forever.
Summer on the River is one of those books that transports you to an enchanting location where you are surrounded by characters who feel like friends. This multi-layered drama has a way of drawing the reader into everyone’s world, not just that of the main character, which makes this one a pleasure to read.
