The 7 Wonders of Olive Oil: Stronger Bones, Cancer Prevention, Higher Brain Function, and Other Medical Miracles of the Green Nectar
Alice Alech and Cécile Le Galliard did a nice job compiling all the information available on olives and olive oil in The 7 Wonders of Olive Oil. This is not an original work but a comprehensive compilation. They summarized their findings in three parts, the first dealing with the history of olives and their farming and olive oil production in fine detail, including comparing olive oils with other oils and fats. The second part is the main focus, it seems, listing seven significant healing or health maintenance aspects of olive oil, including fighting and preventing cancer, slowing Alzheimer’s, or helping prevent strokes and heart attacks. The third part deals with buying and using olive oil. The authors go deep into the physiology and chemistry of both olive oil and human body. The question in the reader’s mind is who the targeted readership is. After all, one author is an x-ray technician and the other has been educated in communication and is a cook.
The writing is not exciting and not a page-turner and, apart from a few sketches, there are no illustrations. The book ends with an extensive bibliography, a few uninteresting recipes, and a quiz but no index.
