A real-life whodunnit that will have the reader think twice before sharing your personal information with banks, online or with people you think you can trust. The Less People Know About Us: A Mystery of Betrayal, Family Secrets and Stolen Identity, by Axton Betz-Hamilton, is a first-hand account of how the identity theft of her parents impacted her life from eleven years of age into adulthood when she found herself unable to secure a car loan. Occurring before the widespread use of the Internet, it seemed there was no way to resolve the situation. However, Betz-Hamilton was determined to find out who and why someone would do this to her family and what she discovered was truly shocking.

Betz-Hamilton’s true crime memoir is a glimpse into her life as a victim of identity theft and the journey she embarks upon to unravel the mystery that plagued her family for years. Written in a narrative style, there are a lot of details that at times seem unnecessary, but the reader will find them important as the story progresses. This book is not, however, just about the financial damage that was done but also examines the psychological damage of this crime. While the writing style may not appeal to all, the story is fascinating enough to keep readers turning the pages. This book is one where the less you know about it, the better.
