The Woman Inside: A Novel
The Woman Inside centers on Bill Olsson, who is a recently widowed father, and Karla, the lodger he takes in to help make ends meet. Karla is studying to be a judge while working as a housecleaner for a wealthy couple. The wife is ill and rarely leaves bed, while the doctor husband is constantly gone and tells Karla not talk to her and make sure she takes her medication. The unpaid bills are starting to pile up for Bill and he’s beginning to get desperate. Karla’s employers wind up dead with both Bill and Karla being brought in for questioning. Did they do it or is there someone else at the center of this mystery?
Maybe it was on purpose or maybe it got lost in translation, but it was really hard to relate to these characters. Every single one is a great example of how bad choices lead to bad consequences. It wasn’t particularly thrilling and there was quite a bit that didn’t come across very clearly. I’m sure if you like the author’s other book, you will most likely enjoy this. It wasn’t really enjoyable for me.
