Unwanted Love Story: My True Love Story
Young and old alike, everyone has a story to tell. Some choose to pass it down through their family and friends through storytelling. Some choose to write long autobiographies that chronicle every moment of their life to the present. Author Herb Nolan takes another approach. In his autobiography, Unwanted Love Story: My True Love Story: A Memoir, Nolan shares a snapshot of periods throughout his life in thirty-four pages. Written in what could be considered a conversational tone, Nolan shares with readers the good times and the bad times of his life. He is brutally honest and holds nothing back, sharing moments ranging from painful and uncertain to joyful and forgiving. In these thirty-four pages, readers might walk away with an appreciation for the life they have, or they may identify with Nolan’s life journey. Overall, it is a snapshot of a life that speaks volumes.
Unwanted Love Story: My True Love Story: A Memoir may come across to readers as an unusual memoir or autobiography due to the length being only thirty-four pages. However, that is what makes this such a unique book for this genre. When reading an autobiography or memoir, readers expect every detail described and laid out for them, allowing them to easily learn about the person. Nolan’s thirty-four pages may come across as too short or not worth the time, but I would beg to differ. This snapshot into his life manages to cover a lifetime in a pocket-sized reader, which is not only a difficult task but invites readers to imagine what it must have been like for him during these experiences, making it more interactive. Overall, I feel that Unwanted Love Story: My True Love Story: A Memoir warrants a three-and-a-half star rating for two major reasons. One, the length may make readers shy away from it, which would be unfortunate. Secondly, Mr. Nolan should be commended for the concise manner in which he shares his life. A full-length memoir would be a definite must-read.
