Little Helpers: Animals on the Job!
Service animals are used all over the world in a variety of ways. What is perhaps not so well known is the sheer variety of animals that provide so much help to people in need. Did you know that horses are used to help people talk about their problems? That tortoises help people fly in airplanes? That snakes remind owners to take their medicine? Or that pigs help people smile and feel less confused?
Each page is dedicated to a specific animal, with a sentence or two describing how these animals help people in their everyday lives. The art style is simple and effective, making it clear what the animal is. The color scheme is perhaps a little unusual as it’s the same mixture of colors – yellows, browns, blacks, and grays – throughout the entire book. At the end of the book is a detailed section on each service animal. The book runs on a little too long to keep a toddler engaged and works better for older children. It is still an impressive book in how it educates the reader – be they child or adult – on the variety of service animals used in our world to help those in need.
