The Diabolic
Thinks peasants. Think slaves. Think of any enslaved group forced to serve another and that would be a Diabolic, a genetically engineered race. They are bigger, stronger, and faster than regular people and ready to give their lives for the one bonded to them for life. Nemesis is bonded to Sidonia Imperian, the daughter of a Senator whose religious beliefs contradict those of the Emperor. In retaliation, the Emperor requires Sidonia to be presented at court, and her parents fear for her life. Her mother sends Nemesis instead. When the Emperor strikes out at the heretics, Nemesis finds herself on her own, in a much more terrifying game than any of them had imagined.
Kincaid follows her Insignia series with an imaginative inter-galactic space tale that will fit right in with new classics like Divergent and The Hunger Games. A subtle love triangle will please readers who like romance, and the bloodthirsty Diabolic will appeal to those who like adventure and fast action. The definition of humanity is questioned as engineered people save and natural humans murder. Nemesis, bloodthirsty, observant, and lacking in humanity, is a fresh take on strong female heroines. Many will be disappointed that this is a standalone.
