The Next Together
Young scientists Katherine and Matthew have incredible chemistry. From the very moment they lay eyes on each other, they’re drawn to each other. It’s inexplicable but very strong. They’re a dynamic match. Katherine is sarcastic, witty, and blunt. Matthew is shy, reserved, and good-natured. As they get to know each other, they find out that they share more than attraction. They’re both relatives of another Katherine and Matthew who were charged with biological terrorism and killed. Not quite believing that their relatives were capable of such an act, they decide to investigate. Their discoveries span time and reality as they find out who their family was, but also who they themselves are.
The level of skill and talent involved in pulling off an ambitious novel like this is tremendous. Lauren James has created a complex novel with multiple time periods and character variants, yet it’s so captivating that it’s easy to keep straight. None of the timelines lag or get boring. While distinct, they also have the right amount of similarities to tie everything together. James proves herself to be a master of characterization, plot, and dialogue. Everything fits into place without a misstep, making this a joy to read. Easily one of the best books I’ve read. Highly recommended.
