I’m Not Your Sweet Babboo!
The Peanuts gang is up to its old tricks in this collection of classic hijinks from the long-running comic strip. Enjoy as Sally’s infatuation with Linus leads him to the roof of an old barn, Snoopy jousts with the cat next door, and Charlie Brown’s rivalry with the kite-eating tree leaves him on the lam.
I’m Not Your Sweet Babboo! is a curious melange of different comic strip storylines, with little rhyme or reason for why they’re included. The title implies a romantic angle, but Peppermint Patty and Charlie Brown each have arcs unrelated to that. (In fact, only Sally and Snoopy seem to have storylines that tie into the title.) And those mini-arcs are often interrupted with standalone comics and callbacks to vintage running gags like Snoopy’s writing career and Sally’s penchant for bad puns.
That’s not to say that the collection isn’t enjoyable; each of the little stories is charming — particularly Linus’s barn adventure and Snoopy’s short love story — but the lack of a coherent theme is definitely off-putting, as you expect the collected stories to tie together in some way.
Although I doubt this collection will create any new devotees, established fans will find much to enjoy and revisit here.
